IT workculture
I read today's IndianExpress newspaper. It had a column on how IT professional get a hit on their sexual life. I’d like to challenge this statement. As far i know, they don’t have a life, then how can they talk about sexual life.
Lets take my[and my friends who work for the next company] life for instance. My day starts at 5:45, as I need to catch a bus at 6:45. I reach office by 8:00am and the work starts with an onsite call. It proceeds till an onsite update in the evening, b4 i catch the bus at 6:20pm, which drops me near the residence at 8:30 - 8:45. Now i have an full 1hr left with me b4 I hit the bed at 10:00.
In that hr, will I eat, or watch TV, or listen to cribs?

Life goes on for me without much trouble as I’m still a bachelor, but what'll happen once i get married.
I’d like to know, if any married men/women managing their work-life balance good. Tips are welcome. :-)

Do u think this topic has nothing to do with Valentine's day?? Think again, we all need more time for our valentine ;-)

veetta maathu machi. move close to where u work. u can save 2-3 hrs of ponnaana neram. I'm not joking here.

all said and done, weekdays are indeed tight. you can't expect to please everyone to the maximum extent when you have to work for atleast 8 hrs a day.

as Saranyan says, staying closer to work does make a difference.

Of late, i hav been hearing abt stressful work of IT pros in India... its more than 6 yrs since I worked in India.. when I was there, there used to be some tight schedules and back breaking work.. there were some lull periods as well where we used to freakout... doesn't the above situation apply in india anymore?

Pradeep,
Kusumbu pola machi unnaku.. Ellam neram varum pothu announce pannren

Saran,
Thats not the case, i cant move out of the city. Our offices are in sholinganallur, navalur, etc which are 15km from Adayar. Given the village type environment, a family cant opt to stay in Sholinganallur.

My friend use to say that we are in the prime time of our life, so lets not waste it. This is the advice we use to give for freshers who work so late in office. Just think if u waste this period u'll not get it again. So go out, stay near to ur office, make friends ....

Food for thought.

I think its a complete mentality change that is needed. From what I understand from friends and relatives working in India, good work means lots of hours. That philosophy has to change. Until infrastructure developments kick in, traffic and travel times wont improve. Cost of housing will continue to shoot up. Companies and managers need to realise that a good employee is one who balances life and work. A workaholic does not constitute a good employee simply because there is a breakdown hovering in the horizon. Prodcutive 6 hours are infinitely better than unproductive 10.
All in all, everyone needs to understand there is more to life than work and money.

Reflex,
Oru GF vantha thaala thaan i'm thinking about time management :)

Ranga,
U dont get the point.
'Prodcutive 6 hours are infinitely better than unproductive 10' - They need us to b productive for 10hrs. Its bcos of unrealistic deadline.
But right now, i'm not a victim of that.

hi jaganlee,

well if u ask me, there is hardly any profession where u can get too much of free time for urself. i guess the ideal place would be a psu. but then the moolah u get in a psu is hardly anything (unless ofcourse one has his/her hands spread under the table); but a private job means more work and travelling hours. I am not an IT professional, but a journo. i can tell u, its as worse. any big news and u have to run after it irrespective of the time or hour of the day. anyways, u can always have a ball during the weekends.

Amrita,
I see ur point. So u mean to say we cant live a life, which our parents lead

no dear, u certainly can lead that life if u have the will for it. but ppl are much more ambitious today. if i say it in simple words, even if u see a matrimonial column there would be this huge demand for guys/girls working in MNCs and earning thick salaries. but yes, time is limited in such jobs. i guess today men are far more demanding. so a good job is a top prority. but that does not mean u cant leave a simple life. it all depends on an individuals' will. but then, one cannot crib and say-gosh, I do not have any life!'
